In the spring of 2019, floChicago will select its fifth class of Future Leaders from eligible high school juniors in the Chicago area. The new cohort will participate in a year-long program focusing on civic engagement, leadership development, and college preparation.
The program begins with an immersive week in the summer, during which the students will live on campus at The University of Chicago, eat meals in the college dining halls, and attend program sessions in college classrooms. Programming during the week will include field trips to communities, governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations and businesses throughout the city, thus exposing students to a range of challenges and opportunities in Chicago. As they explore these issues, students will engage both with one another, and with some of the Chicago’s most prominent civic and business leaders. These activities will also allow students to explore and develop their own leadership skills, as well as learn from the leadership experiences of individuals who are making a difference in Chicago.
Over the course of the following school year, the cohort will continue to come together to build their leadership skills, explore topics facing Chicago and receive support as they chart their course for after graduation. School year programming includes Saturday sessions, retreats, community service project opportunities, and ongoing support from the floChicago staff.
Once graduating high school, these Future Leaders will join a vibrant community of floChicago alumni who continue to support and learn from one another, engage in their communities – and perhaps even come back to floChicago as a staff member!
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, floChicago is offered free of charge to all participants.
If you are a high school junior interested in participating in our 2019-2020 cohort, please check back in February 2019 for details about our new application as well as the application deadline. We’d love for you to join us!
